Ajit Agarkar, India’s chief selector, has confirmed that decisions regarding the future of cricket legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be made following the ICC Champions Trophy. Both players have been pillars of Indian cricket but are now facing scrutiny due to recent performances and the team’s long-term plans.

Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai, Agarkar stated, “The Champions Trophy is a major event, and we are focused on it for now. Once the tournament concludes, we will evaluate the future plans for all players, including our senior performers.”

This announcement comes amid discussions about transitioning from seasoned players like Kohli and Sharma to younger talents. The recent Test series outcomes, including losses against New Zealand and Australia, have intensified these conversations.

For now, both players are set to participate in domestic cricket. Rohit Sharma has confirmed his availability for Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir, while Kohli was initially listed for Delhi’s fixture against Saurashtra but later withdrew due to a neck injury.

The Champions Trophy will be a crucial milestone not just for the Indian team but also for determining the future of these cricketing icons. Fans and cricketing experts eagerly await the outcome as Indian cricket looks to balance experience with emerging talent.
